Ape (Italian for ‘bee’), is a three-wheeled light commercial vehicle based on a vespa scooter produced since 1948 by Piaggio and designed by Corradino d’Ascanio. Ape is basically the three wheeled version of Vespa, born from the need to have a cheap commercial vehicle to power Italy’s economical reconstruction after WWII. Ape comes in various configurations such as vans and pickups for load carrying (popular with postal administration in some countries) and an auto rickshaw for human transportation (source: wikipedia).
