Designed by furniture artisan Thor Bjørklund in 1925 as a solution to the challenge of cutting a good even slice of cheese with a knife. The design was based on the carpenter’s plane, being that specific tool the best at slicing that Bjørklund had in his wood workkshop. Bjørkkund started a company to produce the cheese slicer, Bjørklund & Sønner, and although the company is not active any longer, the cheese slicer is still produced by many companies and can be found in any household in northern Europe.
